Location

Kawhia Camping Ground is located at 73 Moke Street, Kawhia, close to Kawhia Harbour, the boat ramp and the township. It is a practical base for travellers heading to Ocean Beach, Te Puia Hot Springs, local fishing spots and harbour walks.

Although Kawhia has an isolated feel to it, the harbour and camping ground are still close to the main centres. The travel times are:

Auckland – 2.40 hours
Hamilton – 1.20 hours
Waitomo – 1.40 hours
Raglan – 1.20 hours

If traveling from the north we recommend taking the scenic route via Raglan, although unsealed it is well worth it. From the south, come in from Waitomo to Te Anga or Marakopa to Te Anga then follow the Kawhia Harbour Road around to the township. For both routes, don't forget to allow time for sightseeing of waterfalls, caves and spectacular views.

Once in the Kawhia township, turn right at the large palm trees then take the first left below the historic church. Keep following the road until you almost get to the boat ramps. Moke Street will be on your left and the Kawhia Camping Ground just around the corner.
